JUICY

A new blog post about my most recent work with Juicy

A new series beginning
As a visual artist, and one obsessed with texture, I am playing around with new materials that have allowed for an opportunity for me to explore textures in a larger scale than before.

My Juicy Series uses GOLDEN Fine Pumice Stone mixed in large quantities to GOLDEN Fluid and High Flow paints. I have used this stone as it does not condense or shrink after the drying time to the same extent regular gels do. I am also using fluid paint because of their high pigment qualities that brighten the dull color of the pumice stone.

I am inspired by the transforming geography of the landscape and the undulating planes that can make up a seemingly flat surface. I am fascinated by the intricacies of soil layered upon rock that give way, break apart, and allow for a living being to break through or to prevent one in the next moment. I love the topography of the sky, where layers of clouds overlap gases, where snowflakes change shape and color as they travel, and where sunlight can trick the eye into believing what is make believe.

As I continue on my journey with JUICY, I am striving to create these topographical layers that define not only the landscape or the sky, but also the illusion of space. By creating layer upon layer of heavy pastes, I am beginning to sand down level after level to give the illusion of texture that is nonexistent.

Stay tuned for a video of my process!
